In the last week Stewart Dickson (MD & CEO, Varsican Mines) and Martin Silvan (Legal Representative, Variscan Mines Cantabria) met with the President of the Government of Cantabria, Ms. María José Sainz de Buruaga and the Regional Minister for Industry, Employment, Innovation and Trade, Mr. Eduardo Arasti Barca, who is responsible for mining.

The President showed a lot of interest in the Novales-Udias project, the situation of the zinc market, and the next administrative steps to achieve our strategy. She has declared the commitment of the Government of Cantabria to help us. 

Stewart Dickson made a wide and complete presentation, including the Mineral Resource Estimate Update published in Q4 2024 and the current drilling at the Udias Mines as well as the strategy to re-open the San José Mine, in such a way that cash flow is generated in order to grow.

The Regional Minister suggested, and the President accepted, that to promote the project, a small coordination group be created so that the project can be speeded up as much as possible. The Government of Cantabria have adopted this model of success with international chemicals company, Solvay Group, who operate in Torrelavega (16km from San Jose Mine). 

The meeting was held in the meeting room of the Presidency of Cantabria in Santander, Spain.

RADICAL PLANS TO STREAMLINE REGULATIONS IN CANTABRIA ARE PROPOSED

The first major law proposed by new President, María José Sáenz de Buruaga aspires to be revolutionary.
 
The objectives with the Simplification Law are a dramatic change to the relationship that exists between the Administration and those administered – citizens and business – eliminating bureaucratic obstacles and accelerating the resolution of procedures.
 
The draft legislation still being processed in Parliament will modify almost 40 regulations at once: 19 laws (on the Legal Regime, on Subsidies, on Transparency, on Water Supply, the Land Law, the Civil Protection Law...) and 18 decrees on many other matters.
